Home Improvements: KITCHEN

The long awaited post -our kitchen renovation is complete!! Excited does not even come close to describe my feelings. Our house was built in 1968 and still had all the original appliances, counter tops, etc. Everything was very dated. Actually the kitchen as well as the entire house was covered in tile floors when Brian purchased the house. He replaced the tile with these beautiful hardwood floors so we already had that going for us thankfully.

We started by replacing the counter tops and backsplashes, and buying/installing new stove, oven, range hood, sink and faucet.

Then after we filled the piggie bank back up again we purchased new cabinet doors. We did all the painting, sanding, installing ourselves. We also got a new dishwasher.

I feel the whole look of the room has changed. Before it was dark and appeared small. Now it is much brighter and even feels larger. The original cabinets were short and kind of cut the room with them being two sets, one on top of the other (refer to the top before picture to see what I am talking about). Instead, we opted to extend the doors and got one set of long cabinets made and it adds the feeling of higher ceilings. We also hung these mirrors to the wall which helps give the illusion the room is bigger too.

I love our new kitchen. Brian and his dad had dedicated so many hours and Saturdays to making our it what it is. I seriously cannot thank them enough.
